After The Ascension
Heather Hanchuk
Mixed media

Heather originally painted this work for a friend of ours. Heather, the friend and my husband and I had one thing in common; we all used to go the Church of the Ascension on Park Avenue, now the Mile End Library.

When we became Sunday school teachers we used to bring this painting to church every Ascension Sunday so that the children could use it as a springboard to imagine the glory of the Father’s presence, the glory into which Jesus ascended, the glory that awaits us someday!

Rivers of Living Water
by Coleen Turner Proietti
Oil

On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If a man is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.

(John 7: 37-39)

Trinity
by Janice Donato
Acrylic

This painting is a simple analogy of a deep theological mystery - the Trinity. As the essence H20 has different forms; water, ice and vapour, so God is one essence in three forms.

"May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all."

Grace Under Pressure
by Marie Jones
Triptych - Mixed media

This is a testimony of Marie's walk as a born again Christian and how God has transformed and continues to heal her life-long battle with depression and many losses. Scriptures are depicted throughout the triptych. There are many faces framing each panel… An actor, a murder victim, a wanted criminal, a sexual offender, a recovering alcoholic/street person and many different nationalities, showing that Christ died for us all. The bumpy road represents that living a Christian life is NOT always smooth. This is Marie's first formal work of art. She loves to use many mediums as a reflection of her passion for truth, life and nature.

I Shall Come Forth as Gold
by Patricia and Michael Brown
Mixed media wall hanging

Behold, I go forward,
but he is not there;
and backward,
but I cannot perceive him;
on the left hand I seek him,
I turn to the right hand,
but I cannot see him.
But he knows the way that I take;
when he has tried me,
I shall come forth as gold.

(Job 23: 8-10)

The Potter

Yet, O Lord, you are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.

And the Spirit Brooded
by Coleen Turner Proietti
Oil

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

(Genesis 1: 1-4)

Unto You I Have Given
by Coleen Turner Proietti
Oil

“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Before long the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” (John 14: 16-21)

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world give. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

Jesus and the Sheep
by Gail Watson
Oil

My inspiration for this painting was a picture of the famous painting by Warner Sallman. I copied it in 1975 for my parents’ anniversary. The picture was in my bedroom as a child and always made me feel safe when I looked at it. I painted it in two weeks and always felt a strong presence of the Holy Spirit in the room. I told everyone at the time that the Holy Spirit painted it through me.

The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down
in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul.

(from Psalm 23)

Life
Elizabeth Burman
Oil

The black and white represent us. Black is sin and white is goodness, but the white is not pure because the only one who is pure is Jesus and the only way to become pure is through him. The hallway effect is life; sometimes we will do good and sometimes we do bad. The nails and thorns represent the sacrifice that Jesus made, that makes us acceptable to God.

Psalm 19
by Janice Donato
Computer illustration - CorelDraw

The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.
There is no speech or language
where their voice is not heard.

The Battle Belongs to the Lord

Do not be afraid or discouraged
because of this vast army. For the battle
is not yours, but God’s.
